No, self mailers can be folded but also there are many mailer types such as postcards, catalogs and more that are mailed without any tabbing or folding. Typically these mailers that are not folded are cheaper as it requires less labor in folding and tabbing.

Is there a specific area on the artwork that will be the addressing area for self mailers?

Yes, in order for us to send out a direct mail campaign on their own with no envelope, there will need to a 2 x 4 addressing area for us to mail them out. The wafer tabs are utilized commonly for self mailer direct mail campaigns to hold down and protect folded materials and brochures. They are clear, circular tabs that are easy to remove when the recipient is looking to open the self mailer. Generally 2 or 3 tabs are used to seal each individual campaign. For any standard campaign that are not oversized or in the flat sizing, they are not required, but most of our clients prefer to have them for protection.
