This blog segment “Worth The Additional Costs?” discusses different elements of direct mail campaigns and breaks down whether or not they are worth the extra marketing dollars This quick blog will quickly determine whether handwriting your direct mail letters are worth the time and additional costs for a marketing campaign.

As a leader in real estate mailing, the request for a handwritten letter comes up very often. For instance: “Do you guys handwrite each letter? We’ve been handwriting the letters in-house and it takes up too much of our employees’ time?”

Yes, we offer handwriting services for the letter; however, we always ask if the client is open to printing the letter in a handwriting font. The reason being is it can be very expensive to hand write each and every letter. Most of the time, a handwritten letter is not worth the return on investment and extra marketing costs.

We believe the most important component for a handwritten direct mail campaign is the hand addressing the envelope is sufficient for your direct marketing campaign because the whole purpose of the handwritten envelope is to convince your prospects’ to open the envelope and reveal what you have to offer. Handwriting the letter is not going to make your offer or services more attractive to the recipient. Improving the offer or offering a bigger discount will have a more impactful result.

In addition, we can print a handwriting font on a letter in 1-2 days while handwriting a letter can take about 5-7 days. At the Addressers, we have robots that will hand address each and every envelope for you. No one has the time to sit down and hand address 500-1000 envelopes. It’s not an effective use of your employees’ time.

The only time we would not recommend handwriting the letter is when our client has sent out many direct mail campaigns with a handwritten letter and is very happy with the responses they’ve received. Even then, we can advise to try a campaign with a handwritten font.
